PRO Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump review

The CO2GO+ Mini Pump from PRO Bikegear is a full aluminum mini-pump that can be used as a manual pump and a CO2 inflator. The PRO Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump is robust and has two clever ways of storing the CO2 cartridge.

Finally I’ll do a brief comparison with Barbieri Moskito Pump, which is also a 2 in 1 pump.

PRO Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump – 2-in-1 Design

The Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump has a clever design so that it can be used as a manual pump and as a CO2 inflator. When you change an inner tire on the road you want to give the new tire a little bit of air to put it on the rim in a good and functional manner. However not all CO2 inflators provide a feature to manage and/or close the airflow into the tire.

Both the Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump and the Barbieri Moskito Pump give you the option to manually inflate the inner tire a little, put it on the rim and than inflate it to full pressure with the CO2 cartridge. Since I broke bottom part my Barbieri Moskito Pump, I searched for an alternative. The result of my search was the Pro Mini Pump that luckily was still available through a few online shops.

The Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump is full aluminum and feels very robust and well made. This robustness makes it slightly heavier as well, 139 grams for the pump only (compared to 58 grams for the plastic Barbieri Moskito Pump).

The CO2GO+ Mini Pump comes with a 16 gram (*) CO2 cartridge, but could also fit a 12 gram CO2 cartridge. The Barbieri Moskito pump can only fit 12 gram (**) CO2 cartridges, making it less functional for mountain bike and trekking use. The nett weight difference is roughly 80 grams.

Storage of CO2 cartridge in 2 ways

The Pro Bikegear Mini Pump has 2 storage options for the CO2 cartridge.

If you want the most compact solution, that you open the end-cap of the aluminum pump handle. You simply screw in the CO2 cartridge and put the end cap back in place.

With this compact storage option the Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump perfectly fits in a back pocket of your cycling jersey together with the Waterfield Club Cycling Pouch or Banjo Brothers Jersey Pocket Cycling Wallet.

Another option is to screw the CO2 cartridge on the outside of the end-cap. By doing so you will have a better grip to manually use the pump (the CO cartridge extends the end-cap). However I wouldn’t store the CO2 cartridge this way and put the Pro Bikegear Mini Pump in the back-pocket of my cycling jersey.

For manually use of the pump, it makes sense to (temporary) screw the CO2 cartridge on the outside of the pump’s end-cap.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Mini Pump is a very robust well build mini pump, perfect for long training rides. Even when you are out of CO2 cartridges, you can get home safely.

The Pro Bikegear Mini Pump is still available for the price-point of EUR 30,- at Pro Bike Shop, while the Barbieri Moskito pump is available for about EUR 10,-.

Despite being a little more expensive the Pro Mini Pump is a bomb-proof and extremely durable 2-in-1 pump that has my personal preference. When you are riding a mountain bike and trekking bike, the Pro Bikegear CO2GO+ Pump is the better option (certainly with the extra grip of the CO2 cartridge during manual use of the pump).

If you  go for weight or price-point the Barbieri Moskito pump is a good, but less durable option. What mini-pump are you using ?

I’ve reviewed the new Pro Vibe Stem a little while ago, another well designed component from Pro Bikegear.
