In this article I will review the Weldtite TF2 Lithium Grease for all purpose use. The TF2 Lithium grease was advised by the Prototipo Works team, to tighten the PrototipoWorks Ultra Low Bidon Cage bolts.
It is a great addition to my home mechanic workshop next to the Morgan Blue Aquaproof Paste and Motorex Bikegrease 2000.
Weldtite TF2 Lithium Grease for all purpose use
Weldtite is a well respected brand in the grease and maintenance space. However I didn’t have it on my garage workbench. Muc-Off Biogrease, Morgan Blue Aquaproof Paste, Motorex Bikegrease 2000 and some Dynamic Bikecare Carbon Assembly paste were my defaults in the grease and assembly paste category.
On the Weldtite TF2 Lithium grease product-page one can read:
A durable lithium grease specially formulated to provide lubrication and water resistance for your bike’s moving parts. Suitable for headsets, bottom brackets, hubs and pedals. Safe to use on all carbon components.
While in the product description there is an overlap with the other greases, the huge difference is in the grease thickness and viscosity of the grease.
Morgan Blue Aquaproof paste is thicker, and the Weldtite TF2 Lithium grease feels way more fluid and easier to apply on bolt threads. That also means that tightening is theoretically easier for certain bolts. For example the Prototipo Works Low Bidon (Bottle) Cage Bolts for Elite Rocko Carbon Water Bottle Cages for my Scott Scale 925 mountain bike.
The Motorex Bike Grease 2000 is extremely pressure resistant, so I use it for lubricating bearings, wheel bearings and moving joints and headsets. So the Lithium grease should be overlapping in terms of usage areas, but the product information doesn’t state the pressure resistance. So for faster moving parts I use the Motorex Bike Grease 2000, while for the less fast moving parts like headsets or bolt threads I use the Weldtite TF2 Lithium grease.
Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
I’ve purchased a 100 gram container with Weldtite TF2 Lithium grease for the price-point of around 8,00 over at Wiggle. Honestly this is a great value for money all-round grease that was suggested to me by the Prototipo Works team a little while ago.
Weldtite is the official technical partner of World Tour team, Team DSM-Firmenich and Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling, the UK’s #1 ranked domestic team. So if Weldtite is helping professional teams delivering results than it is good enough for non-professional cyclists like you and me.
Given the price-point it is a no-brainer to have TF2 Lithium grease on the workbench in your garage. With the all-round grease label, I can think of many use-cases outside of cycling as well.
