PB Swiss Tools PB 186.6-100M Bitholder Screwdriver

In this article I will share my thoughts about the PB Swiss Tools PB 186.6-100M bitholder screwdriver with the famous PB Swiss classic handle. I will try to compare this bitholder screwdriver with different brands like Hazet, Stahlwille and Wera Tools.

Key design features PB 186.6-100M bitholder screwdriver

On the product page of the PB Swiss Tools PB 186.6-100M bitholder screwdriver you can read the following description with key features of this high quality screwdriver:

Classic Universal Bit Holder, for PrecisionBits C 6.3 and/or E 6.3 (1/4”)

  • Robust bit holder for secure and easy assembly and screwdriving work, extremely versatile
  • PB 186 M: stainless steel magnetic bit holder for easy and fast bit changes for C 6.3 and E 6.3 (1/4″)
  • PB 186 M: strong magnet locks PrecisionBits in position and holds screws in place
  • Slim handle, compact and for universal applications
  • High-quality materials used, oil/gasoline resistant
  • Laser-marked serial number, lifetime guarantee

I have a couple of PB Swiss Tools Precision Screwdrivers which are great for adjusting the limit screws on derailleurs, that also have the PB Swiss Tools classic handle (which is slim, but grippy).

Compared to for example the handle of the S&R Screwdriver bit holder, the Stahlwille 4008-1 Ratchet Screwdriver or the Hazet 2262 Screwdriver with bit holder this handle is very compact. However the grooves in the Bakelite PB Swiss classic handle provide a firm grip. My favorite handle is still the Hazet 2262 with its triangular shape.

Thanks to the prof-tools team knowledge, the classic handle material is CAB (not bakelite is I’ve initially written). You can read it on the PC Swiss Tools website over here:

Cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) is a natural material derived from wood which we use for crafting the PB Swiss Tools Classic and multicraft handles. Since CAB can develop an unpleasant odor in airtight boxes and drawers, we add a subtle vanilla fragrance to the material to neutralize it.

For the precision work in tight spaces I use the smaller Wera 813 Kraftform Kompakt handle with 1/4″ bit holder.

What I really like is the magnetic holder. Especially if you see how it is machined in one piece with a smooth flow from the thin-in-diameter-shaft to a wider-in-diameter holder of 1/4″ precision bits from PB Swiss Tools. I’m also testing Wera bit-sets with their unique hex plus shape (and fit).

The lifetime guarantee is a very cool statement, but in all fairness I wouldn’t know how to wreck this high quality bit holder screwdriver in normal use.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The price point of a PB Swiss Tools PB 186.6-100M screwdriver is € 18,50 at prof-tools.nl which is a very good shop in the Netherlands for high quality tools. PB Swiss Tools will not disappoint you from a quality perspective, since I have long hex keys that are over 20 years old and still in perfect condition.

  • Do you use a bit holder screwdriver ?
  • If yes what would be your preferred brand and type?
