How to change Oakley Prizm Road replacement lens on Oakley Radar Path EV ?

I’ve ordered an Oakley Prizm Road replacement lens for the Oakley Radar EV Path (the old one has lost its coating after 8+ years of service). In this article I will describe the quick process of removing the old lens, and installing the new replacement lens. It will take you less than a minute if you know what to do.

Remove the old Radar EV Path Lens

Step 1 is about removing the old Prizm Road lens from the white Oakley Radar EV Path frame. It is more about the order in which you do things, rather than complexity.

  • Separate nose piece from Radar EV Path lens by pinching the nose piece between thumb and index finger and pulling the complete nose piece backwards;
  • Remove the old lens from the Oakley Radar EV “frame” by first pulling the middle lens section (above the nose) from the frame and than unhooking the lens-corners left and right from the Radar EV path frame;

If you have been an Oakley M-Frame use with loads of different color lenses, you have done this dozens of times. Your already half way there …

In the picture below you can see the unhooked nose piece (in the green triangle), where the green arrows visualize the pinch-movement before you can unhook/hook the nose piece.

Install the new Prizm Road replacement Lens on Oakley Radar EV Path

Step 2 is installation, which is the reverse process of removing. And while I broke it down in monkey-proof steps below, it is really really simple.

  • Slide the replacement lens into on corner of the Oakley Radar EV Path frame;
  • Bend the replacement Prizm lens and slide the other side into the other corner of the Oakley Radar EV Path frame;
  • Slide the middle section of the replacement lens (above the nose) into the Radar EV frame;
  • Pinch the nose piece together (between thumb and index finger) and slide the nose piece back over the new lens (to lock it in place);
  • Check if the replacement lens sits snug in the frame, and if so your Oakley Radar Path EV is like new again.

With some practice you will do the complete remove and installation of an Oakley replacement lens in less than 1 minute.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

I’m using the Oakley Radar EV Path Prizm Road as my primary glasses when riding my bikes as of 2016 (so over 8 years). A replacement Prizm Road lens has a price point of € 66,00 while a complete new Oakley Radar EV Path would be double the price to around the € 130,00 mark. So if it will last another 8 years, it is a solid investment. 🙂

I wanted to explain the process of removing and installing lenses for the Oakley Radar EV. It is a fairly easy process if you know what to do (almost the same like in the good old M-frame days). I’ve purchased another Oakley Radar Path EV with Prizm Trail Torch lens to suit my needs while enjoying my time on the mountain bike and gravel bike.

  • Did you every buy an Oakley replacement lens ?
  • Which is you preferred brand of glasses to wear on your bike ?
