In this article I will share my ideas about the Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount that I’ve installed on the Scott Scale 925 mountain bike, on the Syncros FL-stem that’s on the bike. For me this is a solid option on a mountain bike, where I prefer the Garmin Edge 840 on the stem rather than in-front of the stem like on a road bike.

Design Features Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount
On the Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount product page (Model# : 275433) you can read the following description:
Made in conjunction with industry leaders K-Edge, our new computer mount range are machined from alloy to provide a strong secure integrated computer mount for your bike. This mount is designed to fit with the Hixon iC cockpit for perfect integration on your trail or Enduro setup.
- Designed for Syncros Hixon iC bar/stem, FL and XR stems (replaces the top cap)
- Integrated design fits all Garmin and Wahoo models. Wahoo inserts available
The integrated design with the Syncros FL-stem on my Scott Scale 925 mountain bike is the most important feature. Simply because it has a more solid and centered connection with the cockpit of the cross country single-track killer.
One key feature that is not mentioned in the description is the joint, which allows you to rotate the Syncros K-Edge Computer mount compared to the Top Cap connection. So you can have your Garmin Edge 840 tilted upwards for better visibility (when needed) or completely horizontal and flat (if you think this will help your aero gains).
Syncros also offers a non-K-Edge FL Top Cap Computer Mount (Model#: 250562), without the joint. It is a fixed (angle) computer mount, however with the same FL stem integration. Here the top cap is replaced as well.

However my long-standing experience with the quality of K-Edge mounts (K-Edge Race Mount, K-Edge Sport Mount) and the replaceable Garmin or Wahoo co-polymer plastic inserts, drove my choice for the K-Edge version. While these insert not only allow you to switch between Garmin and Wahoo bike computers it also offers:
While it is extremely strong, the insert is designed to fail before the tabs on your computer break thus protecting your investment from irreversible damage.
In a mountain bike and gravel scenario this is very important from my point of view. A crash can always happen and a Garmin Edge 840 or a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt v2 are expensive investments.

Installation Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount on Syncros FL-stem
I will try to keep the installation steps as simple as possible.
- Loosen the top cap bolt of the Syncros FL-Stem with a PB Swiss Tools or Wera long hex-key
- Remove the stock Syncros FL-Stem top cap
- Place the Syncros K-Edge Computer Mount (in position, design shape will help it positioning on the stem)
- Make sure you have put some Morgan Blue Aquaproof Paste, Weldtite TF2 Lithium Grease on the thread of the new headset bolt.
- Hand tighten the bolt sit
- Adjust the play of stem and headset (when needed), and torque the bolt to specification with Wera 7515 Kraftform Safe-Torque Speed Torque Screwdriver or the Stahlwille Manoskop 730N/2 Mechanical Torque Wrench
- Adjust the angle of the Top Cap Computer Mount (with the hex-bolt at the joint);

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up
K-Edge is a well respected and high quality brand of cycling computer mounts for World Tour teams, combo mounts that allow you to attach a GoPro camera or chain guides.
The price point of Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount (Model# : 275433) is around € 55,00 (but I recall to have purchased it cheaper during a discount situation). The non-K-Edge FL Top Cap Computer Mount (Model#: 250562) fixed without the joint to adjust the angle has a price point of about € 25,00. However, the K-Edge quality and the replaceable Garmin or Wahoo co-polymer plastic inserts, drive long-term value for me.
Thus happy to invest for the Syncros K-Edge Top Cap Computer Mount with Model# : 275433.
