Roeckl Sports Mori MTB Gloves

In this article I will review the Roeckl Sports Mori MTB gloves, that provide excellent all-weather grip on the ESI Chunky grips of the Scott Scale 925. I also own two pairs of winter gloves of Roeckl for many many years.

I’ve purchased the Roeckl Mori after a pair of Specialized Body Geometry (long finger) gloves were worn out.

Key Features Roeckl Mori Gloves for Mountain Biking

On the Roeckl Sports page you can read the following description of the Roeckl Mori Gloves that I use for both mountain biking and gravel riding.

Looking for an allround summer biking glove with long fingers? Then the lightweight MORI 2 with its simple design is right for you! It not only boasts a perfect fit and high level of wear comfort, but is also great value for money. And of course all features are of the same excellent Roeckl Sports quality: Airy, elastic – and resource-saving – Micro Mesh Eco made from 82% recycled polyamide and 18% recycled Spandex combined with a colorful Lycra insert on the backhand keep your hands dry even in high temperatures and give your fingers great freedom of movement.

The ERGONOMIC CUT palm made from tactile, robust, and non-slip DURASENSE lets you control the handlebar breaks and gear levers with utmost precision. A supple neoprene cuff with a Velcro fastener below the wrist ensures a snug fit, while the extensive layer of ALL-WEATHER-GRIP silicone gives you a secure grip on the handlebar in any type of weather.

The GEL-TECHNOLOGY padding and Roeckl Sports’ exclusive COMFORT-INNOVATION padding between the thumb and index finger provide your hands with optimum support to prevent fatigue, especially on long tours or rough terrain.

The thumb and forefinger of the MORI 2 feature a special TOUCHSCREEN COMPATIBLE print, allowing you to use your smartphone or GPS device without having to take off your gloves. And the soft-wipe thumb is perfect for wiping sweat off your face. […] The reflective Roeckl Sports logo adds cool visual highlights.

While it is a pretty extensive description, I think the key features are highlighted in very much detail. And probably other brands have a comparable set of key features, like the Specialized Body Geometry Sport Gel Long Finger Gloves or the GripGrab EXPLR long finger cycling gloves.

Roeckl Mori Gloves on the bike

The most important and most outstanding feature is the all-weather-grip silicone throughout the palm of the hand as well as the fingers. I haven’t seen this amount of silicone added to the inner-hand surface of a glove. This gives maximum control, not online on the ESI Chuncky grips, but also on the Shimano Deore XT M8100 disc brake levers or the Shimano GRX 820 shift and brake levers. Especially in wet, muddy and rainy conditions this is outstanding.

In combination with the well thought out positioning of gel padding (on two place in the handpalm) makes the Roeckl Mori MTB Gloves not only grippy, but also comfortable to wear. While the old Specialized Body Geometry gloves had different padding, I see that both Specialized and GripGrab offer a similar positioning of the padding.

Designing products is also about making trade-offs. The touch screen material on the finger tips is positioned on the thumb and on the ring-finger. Not on the index-finger or middle finger, because these are mainly used for braking on the Scott Scale 925 mountain bike. I don’t see myself operating the Garmin Edge 840 with my ring finger when I’m on the bike.

After a year or 2 of use, the reflective Roeckl text on the finger is removed (characters loosened after washing the gloves). And the thin elastic and airy micro mesh material has got some damage from going through singletracks and hitting some leafs and branches. This is normal tear and wear, and doesn’t compromise fit, grip or value.

Concluding thoughts and wrap-up

The price point of the Roeckl Sports Mori MTB Gloves is customer friendly in a price range from € 22,00 – € 30,00. I purchased my set on the lower end of the range, which results in an amazing value for money ratio. Based upon that ratio is reminds me a bit of the Giro Monaco Cycling Gloves.

The combination of excellent fit, solid gel padding and extreme grip (especially with the ESI Chunky Grips on the Scott Scale 925) makes this a very allround glove. I use it on the Scott Scale 925 mountain bike, the Canyon Grizl gravel bike and sometimes also on the Canyon Ultimate CF SLX road bike.

Despite that fact that it is a summer glove, I use these also in spring and in the autumn season (for quite some time). There is no wind-blocking material in the Roeckl Mori gloves, so for the really cold temperatures

Overall a hard to beat value-for money-ratio combined with excellent Roeckl quality and fit. You can’t go wrong with these gloves.
